Part 1:  Metabolic Syndrome Modules

In this module, we will learn what metabolic syndrome is, risk factors and how to lower your risk and how to set a SMART goal.

As part two of Understanding Metabolic Syndrome, we will learn about causes and increased risks for metabolic syndrome. Some risks can be controlled, while others cannot. We will also review how setting SMART goals helps us tackle health conditions in a manageable way.

As part three of Understanding Metabolic Syndrome, we will learn what the possible complications of Metabolic Syndrome are, as well as how it is treated. A healthy lifestyle is a lifelong commitment and successfully controlling metabolic syndrome requires long-term effort. We will also review how setting SMART goals helps us tackle health conditions in a manageable way.

Part 2:  Diabetes Modules

Part 1: Diabetes is a chronic disease that exists when your body does not make enough insulin or doesn’t use it well. Early detection and treatment of diabetes can decrease the risk of developing complications from diabetes. 84.1 million adults in the US have prediabetes and most don’t even know it. Lifestyle changes, monitoring and working with your health care providers can greatly reduce how prediabetes and diabetes can impact on your life.

Part 2:  Having diabetes doesn’t mean you have to stop eating your favorite foods. Understanding how portion size and food choices can impact your diabetes is important. Food trackers can help you take control of portion size and food choices. Living with diabetes also doesn’t mean you can’t still dine out at your favorite restaurants. Learn some great ways to enjoy dining out.

Part 3:  Regular activity plays a key role in managing diabetes. Setting a consistent exercise schedule can lower blood glucose levels. It is also an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. Setting goals is another important part of diabetes management. Setting smaller short-term goals helps to build new habits and help to reach long-term goals. Remember to set SMART goals-goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely.

Part 4: Living with diabetes, you may experience hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. Learn important tips and tools on how to correctly treat low blood sugar. Living with diabetes can affect all parts of your body including your skin and feet. Ensure you maintain regular foot and skin checkups as part of managing your diabetes.

Part 3:  Healthy Lifestyle Modules

The final module of this course covers healthy living basics. A healthy lifestyle can be achieved with some changes and without a lot of sacrifice. In this part, you'll learn about 6 basic health essentials.
